The Wakulla County Health Department (CHD) has received funding to aid
in the fight against youth tobacco. With this funding, the Wakulla CHD hired Tonya Hobby, a full time tobacco program specialist.
Tonya is in charge of coordinating the community partnerships to reduce
Tobacco disparities in Wakulla; Tonya oversees local tobacco prevention
and control projects, activities and programs. She will engage local
community leaders, faith based organizations, school officials,
providers, and local vendors to establish a relationship and promote the
benefits of cessation programs, as well as the benefits to the
community. The major objectives of these partnerships will be to:
- Reduce tobacco use
initiation, particularly among youth
- Increase smoking
cessation
- Reduce secondhand
smoke exposure
- Increase community
awareness of Tobacco issues
